Busting Green Building Myths

Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) aims to create 10 billion sq ft of green building space in the country by 2022. To this end, the country’s infrastructure and real estate are adopting new technology and building materials. But while we are on the road to green development, many people have some misconceptions about such constructions.

Trimurty, being the pioneer of Green Building construction in Jaipur, would like to demystify some of the green building myths related to green buildings.

Green Building Myth 1: Green Building is expensive

It is believed that constructing a green home is 15-20 percent more expensive than constructing a similar conventional home. This is a myth. Though applying new technologies can make the construction more expensive, the percentage rise remains under 10 percent.

This cost can be recovered over time in terms of the energy savings the construction makes.

Green Building Myth 2:  You don’t save as much as they say

Green homes reduce energy and labor costs. Reports suggest that a green building can help save 50 per cent of energy and around 30 per of water.

  • Green construction materials help keep homes cooler.
  • They reduce electricity bills.
  • Green building construction emphasizes the use of recycled materials.
  • This promotes efficient resource utilization.

Myth 3:  It is a new concept

Green building is not a new concept. In fact, this concept brings back the use of traditional construction methods. It is only positive that the modern technology has provided more reliability and efficiency to the traditional method.

Myth 4:  The concept will not be successful in India

If this were true, then India would not have so many green buildings. Bengaluru tops the list of green buildings. Other cities catching up to this are:

  • Chennai
  • Hyderabad
  • Pune
  • Mumbai

Jaipur too has its share of green buildings. Trimurty Builders are pioneer in he field and have many green buildings in the city like Trimurty’s Arumu and Trimurty’s Ariana.

Myth 5: Green buildings lack design aesthetics

It is believed that while constructing a green building, the focus is on the green applications rather than the design of the structure. It is a myth. All Trimurty’s  green buildings across are well designed and can mesmerize anyone.

Conclusion

Green buildings are not just a trend but a sustainable, cost-effective, and aesthetic choice for the future of real estate.
